Gisborne to get an arthouse cinema, a wine bar & a French chef?

September is shaping up to be an exciting month. With both District 3429 opening around then and Tangerines reno finishing in Sunbury Baringo Food and Wine Co in Gisborne (near the train station) are to complete the extention, according to Gisborne Town and Around FB group (with permission).

Reportedly Baringo FWC are building a small cinema as well as a wine bar and bistro.

The cinema will seat roughly 30 people and will show arthouse movies as well as classics. No Hollywood blockbusters in the near future. The wine bar and bistro will seat roughly 70, and will feature a fireplace, mountain views and a dedicated section selling both local and international wine. So if you’re a wine lover and a movie buff this is really going to be your jam. Given the location I can see some folks from Sunbury catching a train to and from Gisborne, especially if session times are aligned.

They will be landscaping an outdoor alfresco dining and seating area so you can enjoy boutique beers on tap looking towards the mount (completion on that is closer to the end of the year). The areas will be available for private and corporate functions, as well as fundraisers too.

They also have a new French trained executive chef coming in from overseas, name yet to be announced. Looking forward to some European/Japanese fusion food!
