I have finally stopped at Castlemaine to try some of the locally produced icecream. As it turns out there is not one but two icecreameries: Icecream Social (icecreamsocial.com.au, Facebook page) and a small shop at the Theatre Royal (theatreroyalcastlemaine.com.au, Facebook page). Yes, there is a theatre, too.

While Icecream Social has got a cool old-school icecream truck they now also have an outlet at this new precint that is currently being developed. It is the old woolen mills/carpet factory site located next to the Botanical Gardends, just over the railway line.

It is shaping up to be a great location with Coffee Basics – Das Kaffeehaus (coffeebasics.com.au, Facebook page) been open for a while and Castlemaine Brewing Co. (castlemainebrewing.com, Instagram page ) Taproom is about to go live this Easter I believe. Exciting times!

Imagine if the old Sunbury Asylum stie has been utilised for something like this (see Sunbury Asylum Alliance Facebook page). Needless to say I wish we had a decent icecreamery in Sunbury 🙂 And a brewery. And a Greek restaurant. And.. oh great, now I am hungry!
